Meet Sam Kirkham: A New Addition to the Mining Plus Team In Vancouver

We’re excited to introduce Sam Kirkham, our new Business Development Manager based in Vancouver, Canada. Sam comes to Mining Plus with a wealth of experience in operational and consulting roles across North America and Australia. In this blog post, Sam shares his journey to joining Mining Plus, his first impressions of the team, and what excites him about his new role.

Why Mining Plus?

When we asked Sam what drew him to Mining Plus, he shared the opportunity to work with talented professionals in a collaborative environment. “I was looking for a role where I could be surrounded by intelligent individuals passionate about solving complex problems in the mining industry. Mining Plus felt like the perfect fit,” Sam says.

His experience in both open-pit and underground mining provides him with a unique perspective, and he’s excited about leveraging that expertise to contribute to the success of Mining Plus. “In my new role, I can leverage my business development skills alongside my technical background to help Mining Plus win projects and deliver them to the high standards we’re known for,” he explains.

What Sam Brings to the Table

Sam brings a diverse skill set to the team, with a background in engineering across operations and consulting. He’s no stranger to navigating challenging client conversations and ensuring projects meet their needs. “I’m comfortable qualifying project opportunities and having those tough conversations with clients,” Sam says. “It’s all about ensuring we’re aligned on expectations and adding value to everything we do.”

Although he’s new to the Mining Plus team, Sam has worked with many of our team members in the past. “I’ve had the chance to collaborate with many of the Mining Plus team before, which made this transition smoother for me,” Sam says. “I already know how talented and driven everyone is, so I’m excited to be part of the team.”

First Impressions of Mining Plus

So far, Sam has been impressed by the culture and the people at Mining Plus. “One thing that stood out to me right away was how welcoming and supportive the team is,” he says. “Everyone has taken the time to answer questions, explain processes, and share their work. It’s helped me get up to speed quickly, making me feel like I’m part of something special.”

He’s also noticed how much of our business comes from repeat clients. “A lot of the work we do is based on long-term relationships with clients, and I think that’s really powerful. My focus will be on strengthening those partnerships and ensuring that Mining Plus stays at the top of their list for future projects,” Sam explains.

Looking Ahead: What’s Next for Sam?

As Sam continues to settle into his role, he’s excited about the future of Mining Plus in the Americas. “There’s so much opportunity here, especially with small and mid-cap companies. I’m excited to help move projects forward and work on building the technical expertise of our team,” Sam says.

He believes that the future of mining is not just about technology but also about the people driving the industry. “Good people are going to make all the difference in the next five years,” Sam shares. “I’ve seen first-hand how crucial it is to have the right people in the right positions, especially when managing complex mining operations. We can use our experience to help clients make informed decisions and set them up for success.”

Personal Touch: A Bit About Sam

Sam loves spending time outdoors with his wife and kids in beautiful British Columbia when he's not working. Whether they’re skiing, biking, or hiking, Sam treasures the moments spent with his family in nature.

He also shared a fun and unique story from his past. I’m one of those stereotypical Australians who a venomous spider has bitten. As a university student, I rolled onto a white-back spider while sleeping. It left a scar that reminds me to check my pillows every night!”
